Mill Creek vs. Brookwood Snellville, Georgia- If you love a strong running game then Snellville, Georgia was the place to be this past Friday night. Joshua Brown and Jamaal Cole combined for 310 yards rushing and threes scores while Mill Creek got 171 yards rushing from senior Jacorey Lewis in only three quarters of play. Brookwood would pull away in the fourth quarter for a 31 to 21 victory. The Broncos jumped out to an early 10 to 0 lead with great special teams play as they kicked a 40-yard field goal and senior receiver Kyrin Priester went 80-yards for a score on a punt return. The Hawks would bounce back in the second quarter with a 52-yard bomb from sophomore signal caller Daniel David to Michael Cheeks making the score 10 to 7 at the half. Workhorse Jacorey Lewis would then shoulder the load with nine carries for 60 yards giving Mill Creek its first lead of the game 14 to 10. Brookwood would then counter with a combination of Brown and Cole running the ball capped off with a 10-yard scamper by Cole giving the Broncos a 17 to 14 lead. Mighty Mite DeVozea Felton would then score from 25-yards out giving Mill Creek its last lead at 21 to 17 as the third quarter came to an end. The Mill Creek defense would allow junior Joshua Brown to run wild in the fourth quarter. Brown would have his drives capped off by backfield mate Jamaal Cole two touchdown runs. Brookwood scored the final two touchdowns of the game to secure a 31 to 21 win.

Mill Creek DeVozea Felton, ATH, 5-6, 155, Mill Creek, GA (2014) Stats/Highlights: Felton accounted for 133 yards of offense and one score. He was able to show off his superior speed on his 25-yard touchdown scamper. Assets: This athlete may have been the fastest football player on the field of play for either team. He is also quicker than a hummingbird giving him the ability to make would-be-tacklers miss in the open field. His skill set may lend itself to becoming a punt returner at the next level. Development: He needs to watch the ball all the way into his hands before making his move up field. Size will detract some college recruiters but with the spread offense being so popular there is always a place on the football field for someone with his skill set. Recruiting: It is too early to tell at this time. Kelsey Griffin, DL, 6-1/290, Mill Creek, GA (2013) Stats/Highlights: Griffin was only in on three tackles, but his main job is to take on more than one blocker allowing his teammates to make the play. Assets: Griffin has the size and strength to be a true nose tackle at the next level. He also demonstrated good lateral movement. Griffin even came in on offense and was targeted coming out of the backfield down near the goal line. The bottom line is he is a space eater perfect for the 3-4 defense. Development: He needs to be more consistent with his pad level while using his hands to keep defenders off his body. I also believe that he may be at his ideal playing size right now so he needs to be careful how much more weight he adds. Recruiting: He currently has more than ten offers but the scuttlebutt was he has it down to Georgia and South Carolina. Jacorey Lewis, RB, 6-0, 205, Mill Creek, GA (2013) Stats/Highlights: Lewis shouldered the load for the Hawks rushing for 171 yards in just three quarters of play. He was the workhorse in the first half carrying the ball 17 times for 100 yards. Assets: He has great size potential and hits the hole at full speed. Once he is in the open field he is hard to bring down with simple arm tackles especially from the knees up. College coaches really need to take a look at this big back. He has already gone over 400 yards in two games in Georgia's largest classification. Development: Lewis does run a tad high which leaves him exposed to more brutal hits. Working on running with lower pad level will also help protect the football. Recruiting: He has no offers but has definite FBS ability.

Brookwood Joshua Brown, RB, 5-9, 180, Brookwood, GA (2014) Stats/Highlights: Brown finished the game with 224 yards 150 of it came in the second half as he just wore out the Mill Creek defense. Assets: This guy runs extremely hard and definitely does not go down on first contact. Brown ran in and out of the arms of several tacklers in the game. He is very quick and has good overall speed. For a smaller back he proved extremely durable as he took some hard shots but kept on going like the energizer bunny. There is no doubt about him being a major DI prospect. He also made an incredible catch even though it only went for three yards. Development: The area he will need to work on most is adding a tad more muscle mass while maintaining his overall athleticism. Brookwood wants to punish defenses with the run which means he will be getting a ton of carries this year. Recruiting: No offers yet but he is clearly a major DI prospect. Jamaal Cole, RB, 5-11/170, Brookwood, GA (2013) Stats/Highlights: Cole finished the night with 86 yards rushing and three scores in the game. The last two scores came in the deciding fourth quarter. Assets: Though slight in stature Cole runs downhill. He is able to make defenders miss in the open field and has the speed to pull away for long gains. Like his backfield mate Brown; he hits the hole hard. Cole demonstrated softy hands on his one catch. His skill set makes him the perfect all-purpose back especially in the spread offenses that are so popular at the next level. Cole clearly has DI ability. Development: Cole was dinged up late in the first quarter and did not return until halfway through the third quarter. Adding more muscle mass on his frame is imperative to his durability and longevity in the game. Recruiting: He is receiving loads of interest from FBS schools. Adam Ledford, OL/DL, 6-5/230, Brookwood, GA (2013) Stats/Highlights: Ledford played every snap on offense and recorded five tackles and a fumble recovery on defense. Assets: This guy is a true gridiron warrior going both ways for most of the game in Georgia's highest classification. He is tall and lean with no bad body weight. His frame will easily hold another 30 to 50 pounds of muscle mass. Ledford could project at several positions at the next level. He said DI schools are recruiting him as a tight end and FCS schools are recruiting him as an offensive lineman. This is a high academic kid (1330 SAT-Math/Verbal) that looks like he can run all day long. Development: It all really depends on what position he plays at the next level. I think he could become a giant DE ideal for the 3-4 defense. If that is the case he needs to work on his pad level at the point of attack. Recruiting: He has offers from Georgia State, Louisiana-Lafayette, Tulane, and several FCS schools. Kyrin Priester, WR, 6-2, 190, Brookwood, GA (2013) Stats/Highlights: Priester had two catches for 23 yards and returned a punt 80 yards for a score. He looked very fast running down the right sideline for the touchdown. Assets: Priester has good size for a receiver and the ability to make yards after the catch when hit in stride. He also proved to be a dangerous punt returner which only improves his stock with college coaches. Priester does a nice job of attacking the ball with his hands. He was targeted several times but most of the passes were off target. Development: To be considered a difference maker he really needs sacrifice his body and make the spectacular catch in traffic over the middle of the field. Outside of that he looks to have the ability to become a solid DI receiver. Recruiting: He currently has several BCS offers Shaun McGee, DE/LB, 6-3, 225, Brookwood, GA Stats/Highlights: McGee was in on three tackles and applied pressure on the quarterback on a couple of occasions. As crazy as it sounds he looked great in warm-ups at tight end reminiscent of a taller Orson Charles. Assets: Physically McGee was the best looking athlete on either team. He is chiseled from head to toe with a frame that can easily hold more muscle mass. McGee looks to have excellent all around movement both vertically and laterally. In this game he played with his hand on the ground the majority of the time. Development: He needs to use his overall athleticism and long arms to disengage from offensive lineman. Right now McGee is projected as an outside linebacker for Georgia so that means he will need to work on moving in space while playing upright.
