2012 NUC FCS POLL Week 8

The top three teams in the NUC FCS poll lost this past week. As a matter of fact five of the top ten fell. So in an unprecedented move North Dakota State and Montana State maintain the top two spots despite falling at home. Of the five teams that did not lose that were in the top ten only Georgia Southern had an impressive win beating Wofford 17 to 9. The Eagles jumped from #8 to #5 in the country. Making the biggest move upwards were the Eagles of Eastern Washington jumping from #11 to 4 in the country.

They now control the keys to winning the Big Sky.
Only one team fell out of the NUC FCS Top25 and that was Samford by virtue of losing at home to Appalachian State 28 to 25. Replacing them in the Top25 is Villanova fresh off their huge win over Old Dominion 38 to 14. Four schools in the NUC FCS Top25 remain undefeated #12 Lehigh (7-0), #19 Tennessee State (7-0), #21 Cal Poly (6-0), and #24 Harvard (4-0). Really the only thing keeping these schools back are their strength of schedule.

There are two huge matchups this coming week that should affect the NUC FCS Poll. #11 Old Dominion (5-1) goes on the road to take on #20 Towson (3-3) in a huge CAA showdown. The Terriers of #15 Wofford (5-1) go north to take on #8 Appalachian State (5-2) in the Big South.
This week's NUC FCS Player of the Week goes to Johnny Towalid of Indiana State. This defensive back was in on six tackles, and one PBU, but more importantly he returned two interceptions for scores in 17 to 14 upset win over North Dakota State. It was the first win for the Sycamores over a #1 ranked opponent in school history.
