Don Bosco Prep, NJ reigned supreme going wire to wire in the first annual NUC Top25 High School Poll. The Ironmen finished the season (11-0) by outscoring their opponents 452 to 92. They beat out-of-state foes Mission Viejo, CA; Manatee, FL; and St. Edward, OH. Don Bosco Prep, NJ now has a winning streak that goes back 46 games. Coming in a very close second were the Shamrocks of Trinity, KY. The Rocks finished the season (14-0) by decimating their opponents 697 to 116. Trinity, KY beat out-of-state opponents Cathedral, IN; St. Xavier, OH; and Archbishop Moeller, OH. They finished the season with a 25 game winning streak. They are also a squad that will make noise next year with so many impact underclassmen coming back. Steele, TX and Miami Central, FL fell out of the final NUC Top25 losing state championship games in their respective states. The Plant, FL Panthers rebounded from a midseason loss to Armwood, FL to capture the FHSAA 8A title over Miramar, FL moving them into the rankings at #17. The final new team in the rankings is the Lakers from Lake Oswego, OR. They finished the season (14-0) capturing the OSAA 6A State Championship. Miramar, FL fell from #4 in the country to #18 with it loss to Plant, FL 31-20. Westlake, CA saw its undefeated season come to an end 35-0 at the hands of De La Salle, CA. The loss saw them drop from #9 to #23 in the country. Making moves upward were Norland, FL and Armwood, FL. Both schools won their respective state classification championships earning them a small boost of two spots. The overall NUC Top25 Player of the Year goes to the athlete that helped his team the most in its final run in the playoffs. That honor goes to NUC Alum Duke Johnson. The Miami Commit ran for over 900 yards in the payoffs scoring 15 touchdowns while guiding his team to the FHSAA 5A State Title. Runner-up is super junior Robert Nkemdiche who helped guide his Grayson, GA squad to the GHSAA 5A State Title. Nkemdiche finished the season with over 500 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns while finishing the with more than 30 TFL's on the season. |
