Steven Barsamian NUC: First question how are the offseason workouts going? Ishmael Hyman: They are going good. My team has been working really hard ever since weight-room started in January NUC: What do you think you need to improve on for next season as a wide receiver? IH: My routes running, my blocking, I'm getting faster so I just have to keep that up, but the most important thing is I want to get my weight up to 175-180 before the season start NUC: So how do you go about improving on these things? IH: I just got to keep training hard even if it's not with my team. I've been starting to do beach workouts so that's going to make my legs a lot stronger and my cuts/routes better when I get on grass or turf. I just got to keep lifting and eating a lot to bulk up a little NUC: What would you say your strengths are as a player? IH: I'm extremely elusive, I have heart and don't like losing so I'll do anything to win, I'm very hard to bring down when I have the ball in my hand, I'm not afraid of contact NUC: What is something people don't know about you? IH: People think I'm just a track runner and I just play because I'm fast and that's all I can do, but I have hands, I got the moves that'll break a defender down. I take football very seriously and it's not that I'm a sore looser I just HATE loosing NUC: What is it about football that makes you love playing it? IH: I've been playing it since I was 5, so I always liked it but I started to love football in high school because there is just something about walking down the path on Friday nights under the lights. NUC: Why didn't you like the movie TED? IH: (Haha) it's not that I didn't like it; it just wasn't as funny as everyone said it was. There were a couple of funny parts though NUC: Do you have any pregame superstitions? IH: Not really I just always just listen to my music to get me ready NUC: What music do you listen before a game? IH: Rap, Jersey Club music, Techno or dance music NUC: What made you pick St. John Vianney to go to High School? IH: My parent's didn't want me to go to Manalapan high school because they wanted me to go to a place where I could get the best education as possible and where I can put a name out for myself, NUC: What are your expectations for your team next season? IH: State Champs NUC: What are your individual goals for next season? IH: 1st team all division, 1st team all shore, 1st team all state for WR,, go over 1000 yards receiving NUC: So you recently came out with a top 5 of Rutgers, ODU, Kansas, Purdue, and UGA. How's the recruiting process been going? IH: It's not really a top 5 those are just the schools that I've been hearing from the most but it's good because it slowed down a lot NUC: Well what do you like about Rutgers? IH: Everything as of now because I've been there so many times. I'm sure I would like all the other schools like that; I just haven't seen their campus and facilities yet NUC: So How about ODU? IH: I like them a lot, they been on me since day 1, they were my first offer and really want me there NUC: How about Kansas? IH: The WR coach is really cool, he coached great wideouts like Michael Floyd, Jeff Samardzija, Golden Tate and knows a lot about the WR position, so that's why I like them and he likes me a lot NUC: How about Purdue? IH: They are a great academic school, they been showing me strong interest also, the head coach loves me, they say I can see the field early if I go there NUC: How about Georgia? IH: (Haha) its Georgia!! But they said they need a explosive/elusive wideout that can make the big play because all there wideouts are graduating and they don't have that one stand out wideout. They said I look like that guy, they just want to see me in person first to see if I can get a offer. NUC: Do you have a leader at this point? IH: Nope just been thinking about those 5 NUC: Your friend Saeed Blacknall has already picked up a couple of offers, have you guys talked about going to the same school together? IH: Yes we have, where ever I go I'm going to convince him to go, we've been best friends for years now and why not play on the same college team together NUC: So how have the summer camps been going? Do you have any more planned besides UGA? IH: All the camps I went to were good Not as of now but I would like to try and see ODU while I'm down there. NUC: OK last question. Do you have a timetable for a decision? IH: I would like to have my decision made before the season starts but if I don't have my mind made up I'm not going to just rush it so I get it over with. |
