WEEK 3
|
|
Big matchups between out-of-state of opponents can make for exciting talk around the water cooler. It also wreaks havoc on the NUC High School Top25. This week five teams fell out of the NUC Top25 three of which lost to opponents from another state. Falling out of the poll were Southlake Carroll, TX; Prattville, AL; Fayetteville, AR; South Panola, MS; and Miami Central, FL. Three of these teams were the reigning state champions in their respective state.
Jumping into the poll is Camden County, GA by virtue of totally dominating their first two opponents on both sides of the ball. Hoover takes its rightful place in the Top25 by going on the road and beating traditional Mississippi power South Panola. Allen, TX shutout defending Texas 5A DI champion Southlake Carroll 24 to 0. St. Ignatius, OH has had little trouble defending their Ohio DI State Title from a year ago. Lastly Oaks Christian, CA is off to a great start having outscored their first two opponents 98 to 13.
We again have Co-NUC Players of the Week. Walton workhorse Tyren Jones finds himself winning the award for the second week in a row this time carrying the ball a Herculean 47 times for 328 yards and four scores in 37 to 35 win over McEachern, GA. He shares the award with junior signal caller Shuler Bentley of Byrnes who threw for 440 yards and three scores in a win over Woodruff, SC.
This Friday night we have four stellar matchups. In the Lone Star State Skyline, TX takes on Arlington Martin, TX and Allen, TX goes on the road to play the Longhorns of Cedar Hill, TX. In a battle for Cincinnati Colerain, OH takes on St. Xavier, OH. Colorado's Mullen High School travels to De La Salle, CA in a battle of Catholic powerhouses. On Saturday BT Washington, FL has a chance to add to Miami Central's misery.
