2012 NUC FCS POLL

Week 4

Upsets and broken records are what highlighted the FCS Football slate this past weekend. Three teams fell out of the Top25 and several others are on the verge of falling out. Jacksonville State fell 51 to 21 to the Colonels of Eastern Kentucky sending the Gamecocks to the netherworld. McNeese State could not score in the second half and fell to hapless Southeastern Louisiana 25 to 24. Finally Maine lost to the Great Danes of Albany 30 to 20 spinning them outside the Top25.

Moving into the NUC Top25 for the first time is #22 Albany on the heels of their impressive win over Maine. The Colonels of Eastern Kentucky are back in the Top25 at #23 after spanking Jacksonville State 51 to 21. Northern Arizona is in at #24 after coming from behind on the road to beat perennial power Montana 41 to 31. That was the first win in the last 15 attempts at beating the Griz dating back to 1997.

You know what they say "Records are made to be broken". Well two DI (FCS & FBS) records were broken this past weekend. NUC alumnus Taylor Heinicke completed 55 of 79 passes for a (new record) 730 yards and five scores. He also ran for 61 yards and one score. His total offensive output of 791 is a new DI record. All this was accomplished as he brought the Monarchs back from a 54 to 38 deficit after three quarters winning 64 to 61. The unanimous choice for NUC Top25 Player of the Week goes to former Collins Hill, GA signal caller Taylor Heinicke.

For the first time this year an FCS school failed to beat an FBS school. This week on upset alert the Cadets of Army host #7 Stony Brook. Stony Brook gave Syracuse all they could handle a couple weeks ago.

There are three top matchups that will affect the NUC FCS Top25. #1 North Dakota State travels to the UNI-Dome to take on the Panthers. The Panthers may be (1-3) but they have played the toughest schedule in FCS this year. Their losses are to Wisconsin, Iowa, and #4 Youngstown State by a total of 23 points. #6 Delaware goes on the road to take on the #16 Wildcats of New Hampshire. Finally fast rising and #19 North Dakota travel to take on an undefeated Cal Poly (3-0).
