2012 NUC FCS POLL Week 7


Three teams fell out of the latest NUC FCS To25. Villanova lost to bitter rival Richmond 28 to 17. North Dakota was hammered by #11 Eastern Washington 55 to 17. The Citadel gave up 569 yards of offense to #23 Samford in 38 to 7 loss.


That means three new teams are in the NUC FCS Top25. #20 Tennessee State came from behind to beat #24 Eastern Kentucky 23 to 20. #23 Samford hammered The Citadel 38 to 7 behind 569 yards of total offense. Finally Harvard comes in at #25 after crushing Cornell 45 to 13 behind the strong arm of signal caller Colton Chapple.


There are four huge matchups that will definitely affect next week's rankings and the FCS Playoff picture. #11 Eastern Washington travels to Bozeman, MT to take on the #2 ranked Bobcats. The winner will have the upper hand in winning the Big Sky. #6 Youngstown State travels to #15 Illinois State. Both teams are reeling from losses this past week. The Winner will most likely be the runner-up in the MVC. The Southern Conference is about to take shape. #10 Wofford travels to Statesboro, GA to take on the #8 Eagles of Georgia Southern. #9 Appalachian State travels to Birmingham, AL to battle the #23 Bulldogs of Samford.

The NUC FCS Player of the Week is Jamal Jackson of Appalachian State. Jackson completed 20 of 29 passes for 304 yards and four touchdowns. He also carried the ball 17 times for 94 yards and a score in 35 to 23 win over Elon. Jackson has now thrown for 1,581 yards and 12 touchdowns versus five picks while also rushing for 363 yards and an additional four touchdowns.

1.       North Dakota State (ND) Bison

Record: (5-0)

Last Week: The Bison returned a punt and an interception for a touchdown in huge win over Youngstown State 48 to 7.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. Indiana State (4-2)

2.       Montana State (MT) Bobcats


Head Coach: Rob Ash

Record: (6-0)

Last Week: Kicker/Punter Rory Perez was 2 for 2 on FG's, 6 for 6 on XP's, and punted four times for 200 yards in 48 to 41 win over UC Davis.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. Eastern Washington (4-1)

3.       Old Dominion (VA) Monarchs


Head Coach: Bobby Wilder

Record: (5-0)

Last Week: Bye

Next Game: 10/13 vs. Villanova (4-2)

4.       James Madison (VA) Dukes


Head Coach: Mickey Matthews

Record: (4-1)

Last Week: Dean Marlowe had two picks in 13 to 10 win over Towson.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. William & Mary (2-4)

5.       Stony Brook (NY) Seawolves


Head Coach: Chuck Priore

Record: (5-1)

Last Week:  Kyle Essington completed 13 of 19 passes for 263 yards and five touchdowns in 49 to 7 win over Charleston Southern.

Next Game: 10/13 @ Coastal Carolina (2-3)

6.       Youngstown State (OH) Penguins


Head Coach: Eric Wolford

Record: (4-1)

Last Week: Lost 48 to 7 to #1 North Dakota State. The Penguins were minus three in turnovers and only produced 211 yards of total offense.

Next Game: 10/13 @ Illinois State (4-2)

7.       Sam Houston State (TX) Bearkats


Head Coach: Willie Fritz

Record: (3-2)

Last Week: Brian Bell completed 12 of 20 passes for 168 yards and three scores while also rushing for 69 yards and two scores in 51 to 43 win over Stephen F. Austin.

Next Game: 10/13 @ Nicholls State (1-3)

8.       Georgia Southern (GA) Eagles


Head Coach: Jeff Monken

Record: (4-1)

Last Week: The Eagles ran for an amazing 614 yards in 45 to 13 win over Western Carolina.

9.       Appalachian State (NC) Mountaineers


Head Coach: Jerry Moore

Record: (4-2)

Last Week: Jamal Jackson completed 20 of 29 passes for 304 yards and four scores while also rushing for 94 yards and one touchdown in 35 to 23 win over Elon.

Next Game: 10/13 @ Samford (5-1)

10.   Wofford (SC) Terriers


Head Coach: Mike Ayers

Record: (5-0)

Last Week: The Terrier defense picked off three passes in 20 to 17 win over Furman.

Next Game: 10/13 @ Georgia Southern (4-1)

11.   Eastern Washington (WA) Eagles


Head Coach: Beau Baldwin

Record: (4-1)

Last Week: Freshman Vernon Adams completed 12 of 15 passes for 151 yards and four scores in 55 to 17 win over North Dakota.

12.   New Hampshire (NH) Wildcats


Head Coach: Sean McDonnell

Record: (4-2)

Last Week: Andy Vailas completed 18 of 35 passes for 252 yards and four scores in 44 to 21 win over Georgia State.

13.   Lehigh (PA) Mountain Hawks


Head Coach: Andy Coen

Record: (6-0)

Last Week: Mike Colvin was 29 of 38 for 296 yards and four scores in 35 to 14 win over Columbia.

14.   Albany (NY) Great Danes


Head Coach: Bob Ford

Record: (5-1)

Last Week: Drew Smith carried the ball 23 times for 104 yards and three scores in 31 to 14 win over Bryant.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. St. Francis (PA) (3-3)

15.   Illinois State (IL) Redbirds


Head Coach: Brock Spack

Record: (5-1)

Last Week: Four interceptions, eight penalties, and a blocked punt kept the Redbirds out of the end zone in 17 to 0 loss to rival Southern Illinois.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. Youngstown State (4-1)

16.   Northern Arizona (AZ) Lumberjacks

Last Week: The Bears had 511 yards of total offense in 34 to 14 win over Nicholls State.

Last Week: Three turnovers doomed The Tigers in 13 to 10 loss to James Madison.

Last Week: NUC alum Michael German completed 17 of 27 passes for 228 yards and one score while also rushing for a score in 23 to 20 win over Eastern Kentucky.

Last Week: The Blue Hens lost their second game in a row this time 26 to 3 to unranked Maine. 47 yards on 47 carries will just not cut it.

22.   Cal Poly (CA) Mustangs

Last Game: Andre Broadous only completed six passes but half of them went for scores in 45 to 23 win over Weber State.

23.   Samford (AL) Bulldogs


Head Coach: Pat Sullivan

Record: (5-1)

Last Game: Andy Summerlin was 23 of 32 for 320 yards and one touchdown in 38 to 7 win over The Citadel.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. Appalachian State (4-2)

24.   Eastern Kentucky (KY) Colonels


Head Coach: Dean Hood

Record: (4-2)

Last Week: The Colonels blew a 20 to 10 fourth quarter lead to Tennessee State and lost 23 to 20.

Next Game: 10/13 vs. Austin Peay (0-6)

25.   Harvard (MA) Crimson


Head Coach: Tim Murphy

Record: (4-0)

Last Week: Colton Chapple completed 24 of 36 passes for 362 yards and four scores in 45 to 13 win over Cornell.
