Steven Barsamian NUC: How are the offseason workouts going?
Bryant Gross: They are good, everything is going well.
NUC: How did spring practice go?
BG: It went well. I think we did well as a team.
NUC: What would you say your strengths are as a player?
BG: As a player, I would say my speed. My versatility with my ability to play either safety or corner.
NUC: What do you need to improve on for next season?
NUC: How do you go about improving on everything?
BG: I would say doing drills, film room, and the drawing board. You name it, I do it.
NUC: You are a versatile player, what position do you prefer to play corner or safety?
NUC: What is it about corner that you like?
BG: I feel like I am more involved in the game. I am out there one-one on an island. It's just me and the wide receiver out there.
NUC: What are your individual goals for next season as a player?
BG: Obviously to be named an all American. I want to lead my team in interceptions, tackles, and to carry my team to a state title. Those are my individual goals.
NUC: What are your expectations for your team next year?
BG: I hold my team to a high standard. I expect us to be the top team. I would say our ultimate goal is win a state championship.
NUC: What is it about American Heritage that produces all these division one players?
BG: First off you got to start with the academics, that is the most important part. The first thing you got to do is get it done in the classroom, so you are able to play on Friday Night. The coaches are just unbelievable. Our coaching staff is the best. We have NFL experience on our coaching staff. They have been there and done that, so they know what it takes to win. They know what it takes to make a better team and they know how to make us better ball players.
NUC: Alright time for some personal questions, what is your favorite food to eat?
BG: I can't lie, I love to eat snacks.
NUC: Favorite TV show?
BG: I'm an ESPN guy. PTI and anything on ESPN, I watch. I love to watch sports.
NUC: Any hobbies or other sports?
BG: I do play ball. Basketball is something I like to play from time to time. Besides that I have no other hobbies.
NUC: Do you have a nickname?
BG: Nah not really. People sometimes call me B or BG.
NUC: Do you have any movies you plan on seeing?
BG: Not really I am not that big of a movie guy. I may go see the new Spiderman movie but most of the time I wait for the movie to come out on DVD. I did go see TED. It was pretty funny.
NUC: Who is your favorite NFL or College player right now?
BG: I have a lot of respect for those NFL guys. Honestly, I would say Darrelle Revis. He is such a physical player.
NUC: Recently you picked up an offer from the University of Louisiana, how would you say the recruiting process has been going?
BG: Great! Everything is going well. I didn't really expect it to be going like this.
NUC: You picked up an offer from LSU, what does it feel like to pick up an offer from that big of a school?
BG: It's unbelievable. Not many people get that chance. It is great to get recognized like that and Coach Corey likes me a lot. He offered me because he knew I could play.
NUC: What is your favorite part of the recruiting process so far?
BG: I would say the coaches I talk to. I like getting to know the coaches. I like learning more about the schools that are recruiting me.
NUC: What is your least favorite part of the recruiting process? Let me guess talking to me right?
BG: (HAHAHA) nah, nah. I like doing interviews. Really there is nothing about it that I don't like.
NUC: How did the summer camps go? You are pretty much done with them by now right?
BG: Yea I'm done. Everything went as planned and everything is going smooth.
NUC: Which position have schools been recruiting you at?
BG: Most schools have told me corner. Purdue, Rutgers, and LSU all told they are recruiting me at corner. Some schools think I can play both. Like I said before, I prefer to play corner but if the school I pick likes me at safety better, then that is fine with me.
NUC: What are some of the factors in picking a school?
BG: Like I said academics, academics always come first. The area around the school. My family is going to help me out a lot in making my decision. I want to make sure they are comfortable with the school. I have to feel comfortable with the school and the coaching staff. I want to make sure I get that good feeling when I'm around the players.
NUC: Have any schools told you they were close to offering?
BG: The last few teams that offered, I had no idea they were going to do so. Most of the time they contact me on facebook and let me know they are really interested in me. I have talked to Boston College and Wisconsin. I haven't heard from them lately but that could be because it is a dead period right now. But once it is over I'm sure they will get back into the mix.
NUC: Which teams are showing the most interest right now?
BG: Actually I'm going down to Rutgers and Purdue soon.
NUC: What do you like about those two schools Rutgers and Purdue?
BG: What stand out the most to me are first and foremost the academics. Rutgers has the great ranking in the APR and Purdue is well known for their engineering school. Both of them play in good conferences, with the Big East and the Big Ten. It's just a hard decision. I have not seen Purdue yet, and I have not seen Rutgers yet. But I do not want to make a decision without seeing them.
NUC: What are your top schools right now?
BG: I would say Rutgers, Purdue, and LSU.
NUC: Do you have a timetable for a decision?
BG: I don't know. It all depends on when I visit all three schools. Like I said I don't want to make a decision before I see them. I want to try to take all five of my official visits because there may be something I am missing, you never know.
