Although Taylor plays both ways for his South Brunswick squad, he will be lining up at Safety for his time in Piscataway.
"Me and my parents have been talking for awhile. We were just trying to figure out what the right time (to commit) was. Coach Mantz, my parents and I came to the conclusion that it was best to commit early and get the process out of the way. I know Rutgers is the school for me. Everybody close to me pretty much agreed that today was a good day to commit" said Taylor on his decision to commit today.
Asked who he called first, Taylor said, "I called Coach Flood and Coach Smith but they were in a coaches meeting. So I went back to class and then Coach Mantz called me back down (to his office). We called Coach Flood and he answered. He was really excited and he said I made his day. He said I was going to help them win a national title."
Taylor will be joining his South Brunswick teammate, Jevon Tyree who signed his letter intent this past February, at Rutgers. Asked if Tyree going there impacted his decision, he said "Yea it definitely impacted my decision. I see Jevon every day. Seeing him, he seemed so excited about Rutgers."
"I have been playing with Jevon for the past four years. It is not like I will be going to a school where I don't know anybody. That was definitely big reason for me."
Of course the most notable South Brunswick alum who attended Rutgers was Mohammed Sanu. "Mo definitely did some big things at Rutgers and with him coming from South Brunswick; it is cool we can keep the South Brunswick tradition going."
Location also played a big part in Taylor's decision.
"I could be away from home and yet so close at the same time. My family lives in New Jersey and it always good to be close to home. My Grandparents actually live in Piscataway. Having family around is great because the support is always there."
Asked what Rutgers fans should look forward to, Taylor said, "Just another successful South Brunswick product coming through the program. They can look forward to the same success at Rutgers."
Now that Taylor is finished with the recruiting process he can focus on his senior year but he will also try to help recruit some of the other uncommitted Jersey recruits.
"I will definitely try and help. This recruiting class will get stronger and stronger. Also having Anthony (Cioffi) helping, it will make it easier to help make this recruiting class even stronger."
