The National Underclassman Combine made a return trip to the Garden State this past weekend to hold two more sessions, both of which produced memorable performances.  Leading the way in the morning session was sophomore DB William Marable of Bayside High School in Virginia, who took home the Overall MVP and Fastest Man Award.  Marable, 6-foot-0 and 194-pounds, is a lock down corner who was also great in bump-and-run coverage.  He also showed off his impressive athleticism during the combine events with a 35-inch vertical, 8’11 ½” broad, 4.55 shuttle, 19 reps at 150-pounds, and his award winning 4.49 40.

St. Joseph’s (Montvale) High School in New Jersey produced two MVP winners in the morning session, with the first going to Freshman MVP RB Kwaun Williams.  Williams, 5-foot-8 and 166-pounds, possesses the speed and athleticism to become a top notch running back in the future.  He also had a 32-inch vertical, 9’3 ½” broad, 4.69 40, 4.38 shuttle, and 14 reps at 135-pounds.

Sophomore Kevin Adams of St. Joe’s had to share the RB MVP with sophomore Steven Beauharnais of Saddle Brook High School.  Adams, 6-foot-1 and 197-pounds, was phenomenal during 1-on-1’s and possesses a very impressive combination of power and athleticism.  During the combine events he had a 31-inch vertical, 9’1” broad, 4.67 40, 4.64 shuttle, and had 23 reps at 150-pounds.  Beauharnais, 6-foot-2 and 230-pounds, is no stranger to the National Underclassmen Combine, as he was the LB MVP at the 2006 Ultimate 100 Camp.

The big back has raised his game to another level over the last year, and showed off his athleticism with a 29-inch vertical, 8’8” broad, 4.34 shuttle, 4.87 40, and 24 reps at 150-pounds.  After rushing for 1,300 yards during his sophomore season at Saddle Brook, expect even bigger things from him in 2007.  Though Adams and Beauharnais stole the spotlight at the running back position, another back who stood out was sophomore Jordan Jonker of Hudsonville High School in Michigan.  Jonker, 5-foot-10 and 192-pounds, excelled during the combine events with a 34-inch vertical, 4.59 40, 4.57 shuttle, 9’0 ½” broad, and 27 reps at 150-pounds.

The LB MVP went to freshman Ryan Cobb of Don Bosco Prep, who at 5-foot-11 ½ and 210-pounds, is a tremendous athlete with great speed, strength, and explosion.  He put all of this together during the 1-on-1’s, and also showed tremendous intensity.  Cobb had a 31-inch vertical, 4.60 40, 4.79 shuttle, 8’8” broad, and 24 reps at 135-pounds.

Also deserving consideration for the LB MVP was sophomore Greg Burton of South Plainfield High School in New Jersey.  Burton, 6-foot-1 and 203-pounds, has great movement and athleticism for a linebacker, and used that to have two interceptions during the 1-on-1’s.  He also had a 28.5-inch vertical, 8’2 ½” broad, 4.68 shuttle, and 16 reps at 150-pounds.

Sophomore Darlos James of Iona Prep in New York took home the DB MVP with a 31-inch vertical, 4.83 40, 4.36 shuttle, 8’8” broad, and 20 reps at 150-pounds.  James, 5-foot-10 and 163-pounds, was also tremendous during the 1-on-1’s and showed great athleticism during the defensive back drills.

Deserving special mention at the defensive back position was sophomore Duron Harmon of Caesar Rodney High School in Delaware.  Harmson, 6-foot-0 ½ and 191-pounds, was superior during the 1-on-1’s, which resulted in two interceptions for him, plus he had a 30.5-inch vertical, , 9’1” broad, 4.86 40, 4.69 shuttle, and 19 reps at 150-pounds.

Jamari Miller won the DL MVP for South Plainfield High School, as he dominated the position throughout the morning.  Miller, 6-foot-3 and 272-pounds, was unstoppable during 1-on-1’s and showed great technique with his speed rush.  He also had a 25-inch vertical, 4.99 40, 8’4” broad, and 12 reps at 185-pounds.

Winning the second MVP award for Iona Prep during the morning was sophomore OL Thomas Pizzurro.  At 6-foot-2 and 291-pounds, he showed both great technique and power during the 1-on-1’s.

He also had 18 reps at 185-pounds and a 6’3” broad. Also doing well was 5 foot 10 and 210 lb Max McCorkle of Malvern Prep, who ran a 5.34 40 and 4.81 shuttle.

QB Cody Harris made the trip to Jersey from Marion Pleasant High School in Ohio, and left the event with the QB MVP award.  Harris, 5-foot-10 and 175-pounds, has a great delivery of the ball, plus impressive velocity.  He was also impressive during the combine events with a 4.37 shuttle, 19 reps at 150-pounds, and an 8’1” broad.

The final award of the morning session went to WR MVP sophomore Chris Larson of Ramapo High School in New Jersey.  Larson, 5-foot-11 ½ and 185-pounds, has phenomenal hands and route running ability, and he used these skills to catch everything and anything in his area.  Larson also had a 26-inch vertical, 4.91 40, and 12 reps at 150-pounds.
