Athletes Dominate
Morning Session In Virginia
NUC MID-ATLANTIC, MORNING
SESSION, STERLING, VA, 5/06/07
The
National Underclassmen Combine
hit Virginia last weekend, an
area that has long been known as
a major producer of college
level football athletes. The
Combine did not disappoint, as
both the morning and afternoon
session produced impressive
performances. Leading the way
in the morning was Overall MVP
Logan Heastle, a sophomore wide
receiver from Great Bridge High
School in Virginia.

Heastle,
6-foot-2 and 186-pounds, has all
the tools to be a 20+ offer
player down the road. He has
phenomenal athleticism and was
tremendous during the 1-on-1
portion of the event. He also
showed off his athleticism
during the combine events, with
a 33.5-inch vertical, 10’2 ½”
broad, 4.49 shuttle, 4.48 40,
and 24 reps at 150-pounds.
Winning the WR MVP was sophomore
Brandon “BJ” Scott of Forest
Park Senior High School in
Virginia. At 6-foot-4 and
205-pounds, he already has the
size of a top D1 receiver, but
he also possesses tremendous
hands and route running
ability. He also finished with
21 reps at 150-pounds, a 26-inch
vertical, 8’6 ½” broad, 4.67
shuttle, and 4.81 40.

The
race for the RB MVP was too
close to call, so Co-MVP’s were
awarded. First up was sophomore
Kevin Howell, 5-foot-9 and
191-pounds, of Southwest Raleigh
High School in North Carolina,
who showed tremendous speed and
athleticism during 1-on-1’s,
plus excelled during the combine
events with 32 reps at
150-pounds, a 4.50 40, 9’3 ½”
broad, and 31-inch vertical.
Sharing the MVP award with
Howell was sophomore Deantwan
Williams of Woodbridge High
School in Virginia. At 5-foot-7
and 190-pounds, Williams has
superb size, speed, strength,
and athleticism, which led to an
amazing performance during the
1-on-1’s. During the combine
events he finished with a
30.5-inch vertical, 9’4” broad,
4.50 shuttle, 4.50 40, and 33
reps at 150-pounds.

Not
winning MVP’s, but deserving
special mention at the running
back position are sophomores
Travis Hawkins of Quince Orchard
High School in Maryland and Alex
Owah of Harrisonburg High School
in Virginia. Hawkins, 5-foot-10
and 177-pounds, had a 33-inch
vertical, 9’0 ½” broad, 4.64 40,
4.34 shuttle, and 21 reps at
150-pounds, while Owah,
5-foot-11 and 166-pounds,
finished with a 4.49 40, 30-inch
vertical, 4.61 shuttle, 8’5 ½”
broad, and 21 reps at
150-pounds.
The
Freshman MVP went to another
running back, Andre Coleman of
CD Hylton High School in
Virginia. Coleman, 5-foot-10
and 137-pounds, showed
tremendous speed and footwork
during both the drills and
1-on-1’s, and finished the
combine events with a 30.5-inch
vertical, 4.54 40, and 4.35
shuttle.

The
QB MVP went to sophomore Teddy
Bacote of Bethel High School in
Virginia. Bacote, 6-foot-3 and
173-pounds, has a smooth
delivery, great vision, and did
a phenomenal job of both passing
and delivering the ball to the
correct receivers. He also has
a 27-inch vertical, 4.77
shuttle, 5.15 40, and had 17
reps at 150-pounds.

The
final offensive award went to OL
MVP sophomore Zachary Williams
of Whiteville High School in
North Carolina. Williams,
6-foot-2 and 300-pounds, showed
great technique and quickness
for a player of his size. He
also had 23 reps at 185-pounds,
a 5.40 40, and a 5.06 shuttle.

An
offensive lineman deserving
special mention was sophomore
Austin Brown of Woodbridge High
School in Virginia. Brown,
6-foot-0 ½ and 230-pounds, was
great during 1-on-1’s, and had a
24.5-inch vertical, 5.13
shuttle, 5.61 40, and 13 reps at
185-pounds.

The
DB MVP and Fastest Man Award
both went to sophomore Darrick
Scott of Thomas Johnson High
School in Maryland. Scott,
5-foot-9 and 161-pounds, did a
tremendous job with his footwork
during the 1-on-1’s and showed
great speed during the
positional drills. He also had
a 31.5-inch vertical, 9’3”
broad, 11 reps at 150-pounds,
4.35 shuttle, and the award
winning, 4.47 40.

Sophomore Kenton Rowland of
Southeast Raleigh High School in
North Carolina took home the DL
MVP during the morning.
Rowland, 6-foot-1 and
202-pounds, was great during
1-on-1’s and showed impressive
quickness during the positional
drills. He also had a 5.03
shuttle, 5.11 40, 12 reps at
185-pounds, and a 8’1” broad.

The
final award of the morning went
to LB MVP Kevin Hartsfield, a
freshman from Wake Forest
Roseville High School in North
Carolina. Hartsfield, 6-foot-4
and 205-pounds, possesses
superior athleticism and hips
for his age, plus he had a
28.5-inch vertical, 9’1 ½”
broad, 4.84 40, and 20 reps at
135-pounds.
