Las Vegas,
NV, 2/16/08, Faith Lutheran HS |
Faith Lutheran High School in Las Vegas
played host to another stop on the National Underclassmen
Combine tour. And with Vegas being the host city, it should
come as no surprise that several players from local-power
Bishop Gorman High School excelled, including Overall MVP DL
Alex Turner, who also took home the Strongest Man Award.

Turner, 6-foot-1 and 234-pounds, was excellent during both
1-on-1's and individual drills, and his 20 reps on
185-pounds won him the Strongest Man Award. Along with his
dominant performance on the bench, he also had a 29-inch
vertical, 8'11" broad, 4.83 40, 4.75 shuttle, and 20 reps on
185-pounds.

Morning
Session
When college recruiters look for
athleticism and speed, they head
to South Florida, so it should
come as no surprise that the
talent level at the recent
National Underclassmen Combine
stop at Spanish River High
School in Boca Raton was
exceptional.
Standing out above the rest in
the morning session was
sophomore RB Deandre Johnson of
Monsignor Pace High School. He
showed great feet, hands, and
skills during the 1-on-1's,
which continuously left him
practically uncovered. At
5-foot-7 ½ and 195-pounds,
Johnson finished with a 29-inch
vertical, 9'4" broad, 4.56 40,
4.46 shuttle, and 26 reps on
155-pounds

Deandre Johnson with
Coach Schuman
Taking home two awards was
sophomore Todd Chandler of Miami
Northwestern. Aside from winning
the DL MVP he also was named the
Strongest Man at the morning
session with 22 reps on
185-pounds. Chandler, 6-foot-1
and 291-pounds, was strong as an
ox during individual drills and
1-on-1's, but was also athletic,
with amazing hands and an
explosive first step. To go
along with his impressive bench
results, he also had a 21-inch
vertical, 4.90 shuttle, and 5.19
40.

Afternoon Session
After a very impressive morning
session at Spanish River High
School in Boca Raton, the
afternoon session of the
National Underclassmen Combine
also did not disappoint. Leading
the way in the afternoon session
was Overall MVP sophomore WR Ted
Meline of Westlake Prep, who has
the potential to become one of
the top prospects from the
Sunshine State next year.

Ted Meline with
Coach Schuman
Meline, 6-foot-1 ½ and
165-pounds, showed a fantastic
combination of hands, route
running, jumping ability and
overall ball skills, to dominate
both the individual drills and
1-on-1's. He also didn't
disappoint during the combine
events with a 32.5-inch
vertical, 4.38 40, 4.53 shuttle,
and 9'3" broad.
The OL MVP and Strongest Man
Award went to sophomore Jose
Jose of Booker T. Washington
High School in Miami. Measuring
in at 6-foot-2 and 355-pounds,
showed amazing feet and hands
for a player of his size, and
completely dominated during
individual drills and 1-on-1's.
The huge lineman also ran a 5.53
40, 5.20 shuttle, and had 20
reps on 185-pounds to win the
Strongest Man Award.
