Big Men Dominate The Afternoon Session!
NUC MID-ATLANTIC, AFTERNOON SESSION, STERLING, VA, 5/06/07
The National Underclassmen Combine hit Virginia last weekend, an area that has long been known as a major producer of college level football athletes. The Combine did not disappoint, as both the morning and afternoon session produced impressive performances. Leading the way in the morning was Overall MVP Logan Heastle, a sophomore wide receiver from Great Bridge High School in Virginia.
Another defensive back who excelled was DB MVP sophomore Asaad Graham of Lakeland High School in Virginia. Graham showed great athleticism and hips for a defensive back, and also has a great ability to break on the ball. At 5-foot-9 ½ and 154-pounds, he had a 28-inch vertical, 8’7 ½” broad, 4.76 40, and 12 reps at 150-pounds.
Just as in the morning session, the Fastest Man Award winner also took home another piece of hardware. Sophomore Chase R. Barnett of Brooke Point High School in Virginia was both the Fastest Man and RB MVP during the afternoon session, and at 5-foot-7 ½ and 160-pounds, he continually beat everyone he faced during 1-on-1’s. He also had a 34.5-inch vertical, 9’7” broad, 4.55 40, and 21 reps at 150-pounds. Another running back who excelled was sophomore Donnell Epps of West Potomac High School in Virginia. Epps, 5-foot-5 and 151-pounds, had a 26-inch vertical, 4.84 40, 8’6 ½” broad, and 18 reps at 150-pounds.
The race for the top linebacker was a tight one, but walking away with the LB MVP was sophomore Samuel Knott of HD Woodson High School in Washington D.C. Knott, 5-foot-10 and 190-pounds, possesses a non-stop engine, has great speed and intensity, and already shows impressive leadership skills. During the combine events he finished with a 28-inch vertical, 8’8” broad, 4.75 40, and 18 reps at 150-pounds. Two other linebackers also deserve special mention.
First, sophomore Bradley Johnson, 6-foot-2 and 200-pounds, of Bethel HS of Virginia has impressive size and speed, plus he had a 25.5-inch vertical, 4.85 40, 8’ 4 ½” broad, and 20 reps at 150-pounds.
And sophomore Renan Guedes, 5-foot-11 and 199-pounds, of Colizadok Magruder High School in Maryland possesses smooth hips and nice athleticism to go along with his 26-inch vertical and 31 reps at 150-pounds.
The race for the top frosh came down to two players, with the winner being WR Brian Burns of Riverdale Baptist School in Maryland.  Though still small, 5-foot-9 and 136-pounds, he did great during 1-on-1’s and showed impressive receiving skills for a player of his age.  He also had a 29.5-inch vertical, 4.90 40, 4.67 shuttle, and 8’8 ½” broad.
The other top frosh was RB Matthew Scott, 5-foot-7 and 163-pounds, of Tuscarora High School in Maryland, who did an excellent job during 1-on-1’s and had a 29-inch vertical, 4.74 40, and 20 reps at 135-pounds.
The OL MVP went to sophomore Omar Fahnbulleh of Point Branch High School in Maryland. Fahnbulleh, 6-foot-1 and 247-pounds, was dominant during 1-on-1’s, and had a 23-inch vertical, 5.54 40, 5.20 shuttle, and 16 reps at 185-pounds.
Two other offensive linemen also stood out, including sophomore Christopher Wells of Dinwiddie HS of Virginia. Wells, 6-foot-3 and 263-pounds, had a 5.12 shuttle, 5.80 40, and 13 reps at 185-pounds. Also, sophomore Robert Morgan, 6-foot-0 and 308-pounds, of Dinwiddie High School showcased impressive technique and strength during 1-on-1’s, while having 15 reps at 185-pounds, a 5.31 shuttle, and 5.87 40.
The defensive line position was dominated by MVP sophomore Gavin Donathan of Hurricane High School in West Virginia.  Donathan, 6-foot-0 ½ and 280-pounds, is an impressive power rushing nose guard prospect, who showed impressive strength and explosion throughout the individual drills and 1-on-1’s.  During the combine events he had a 22.5-inch vertical, 7’7 ½” broad, 5.81 40, 5.16 shuttle, and 19 reps at 185-pounds.
The QB MVP went to sophomore Jeremy Robinson of Albermarle High School in Virginia. Robinson, 5-foot-11 and 179-pounds, had a 25-inch vertical, 8’11” broad, 4.69 shuttle, 4.73 40, and 14 reps at 150-pounds. Also worth mentioning was the performance of freshman Matt Heilig of Central Dauphin HS of Pennsylvania.
Heilig, 6-foot-4 and 180-pounds, showed a great deal of potential during the afternoon session, and had a 28-inch vertical, 4.91 40, 4.87 shuttle, 8’0” broad, and 12 reps at 135-pounds.
The last award of the Virginia event went to WR MVP sophomore Kevin Rojas of Wakefield High School in North Carolina. Rojas, 6-foot-2 and 189-pounds, used his tremendous speed and receiving abilities to dominate the 1-on-1 portion of the event. He also had a 28-inch vertical, 8’7” broad, 4.56 40, 4.48 shuttle, and 25 reps at 150-pounds.
